Maiar or Maia is a spirit of lesser power that helped Iluvatar creating the universe of LOTR(Eä) ,the most powerfull are the Valar and then there is Melkor the Dark Lord that that was an Evil Valar,of cours he his dead ,Sauron killed him and took is place as Dark Lord
